SARATOGA, NY (September 24, 2009) – The 1st National Bank of Scotia opened its redesigned branch at 3013 Route 50 in Saratoga Springs on Monday, Sept. 21. To commemorate the event, the bank scheduled a number of events, including a series of financial education talks and family activities for its customers throughout the week, with some programs continuing through October.

The celebration kicked off on Monday with a ribbon-cutting at noon featuring bank president John Buhrmaster.

“We’ve been in the market since 1973, but this is a brand-new gorgeous building that we opened up,” said Diane Smith Faubion, senior vice president of retail banking.

During Monday’s grand reopening, Buhrmaster also made a $2,500 donation to The Children’s Museum at Saratoga. “For the past 19 years, The Children’s Museum at Saratoga has been committed to providing positive opportunities for children to learn about science, history, community living and the arts,” said Faubion in a written statement.

She noted that one of the museum’s hands-on activities features a mock bank.

Staff will be available each day to provide personal and commercial customers with financial information, advice and tips to help them with saving money, investing and building wealth. On Monday, advice was offered on eChecking, and online Bill Pay and deposit products. On Tuesday, advice was offered to potential home buyers. On Wednesday, tools for helping small business – how to work with remote deposit, commercial loans and business deposit accounts – were discussed.

On Thursday, advice will be offered to customers about car loans, and on Friday, customers can discuss investments and savings with bank staffers. On Saturday, customers can discuss student checking and Young Savers Accounts. To go with each day’s theme, there will be prize drawings for gift baskets and other items for customers. Prize drawings will continue through Saturday, Oct. 17.

“Yesterday the theme was deposit accounts, and we were featuring some of our electronic products [including] eChecking and online Bill Pay. The basket that goes with that has an online theme, so there are computer accessories,” said Faubion.

For their home-buyers theme, a gift basket including wine, candles and other home items was given out. On Thursday, a basket of car-care products will be up for raffle.

According to Faubion, Saturday “is a big day. It’s a family day theme where we’re featuring our student checking and Young Savers programs, and it’s a kids ‘gift basket and we’re having a live radio broadcast and bouncy bounce, “ said Faubion.

There will also be a live broadcast from Star 101.3 FM, refreshments and other children’s activities.

The 1st National Bank of Scotia is also holding a drive for new and used kids’ coats through Saturday, Oct. 17. Customers are invited to deposit their donations into collection boxes located at the branch. All used outerwear will be dry cleaned before being given to children in need of warm winter jackets in Saratoga County. Faubion said that from October through January the bank will offer financial seminars in the evenings.

“We’ve been a part of Saratoga since 1973, and we’re thrilled about reinvesting in the community and continuing to support the businesses and individuals that have supported us over the years,” said Faubion.
